African American men suffer and die from prostate cancer more than any other group in the world. This project brings life-saving cancer information to men where they can be reached in large numbers. As men are working on staying fine, they need to be reminded to take action to stay alive.
The project entails cancer education by trained nurses, members of Alpha Phi Alpha and The Shriners, Arabic Temple #44. These professionals spend a day at the barbershop talking to participants about cancer and how to take charge of their health. Participants receive folders containing cancer information and other resource materials. They also receive Stay Fine – Stay Alive T-shirts.
