Spa of Hope
|
 |
The Spa of Hope was a total beauty treatment for women living with cancer. The project was sponsored by Namaste Laboratories, makers of Organic Root Stimulator in association with the National Black Leadership Initiative on Cancer.
The first Spa of Hope was held at Gilda’s Club Chicago on June 12, 2000. Cancer patients were treated to a day of complete pampering from head to toe. They had their hair styled, facials, manicure, pedicure treatments and massage. As they left the event, they received carnations as a salute to their struggle and a well-wish.

It was an event that touched the lives of so many as stated by a cancer patient who said “in all my life, I have never been treated with so much love and pampering."
On August 28, 2000, the project was repeated at Fleetwood Jourdain Community Center in Evanston, Illinois with the support of the Mayor of Evanston. It was one of Evanston’s best practices for that year.
Desi’s Full Service Salon in Chicago, Dudley’s Beauty College School and Pivot Point School of Hair Design in Chicago provided hair and make-up artists who volunteered their time. |
